Firnas Shuman is a renewable energy consulting and technical services firm. We provide our services worldwide, focusing on Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Each request that comes to us from clients is unique and the success of turning these requests into awarded projects depends on the quality of the proposals we submit.

About the position


The purchaser is responsible for selecting suppliers, negotiating, and administering long-term contracts, monitoring supplier performance, placing orders to suppliers, developing a responsive supplier base, and maintaining good supplier relations

Job Objective: To ensure that our purchases are:

  • Fit for our purpose
  • At a reasonable cost 
  • Under terms that are fair to us and our suppliers. 

Job Post: Cairo, perhaps with occasional travel


Key job functions:

Our teams require materials and services both from the local and international markets. Some of the functions a Purchaser would perform are:  

  • Finding and sourcing materials, obtaining and comparing pricing;
  • Negotiating with suppliers, often in foreign countries and foreign languages;
  • Determining what is a reasonable price based on metrics when it’s challenging to get alternative quotations.

Basic requirements

We expect that a successful candidate will:

  • have a bachelor’s degree in some field;
  • have worked in an international organization dealing with an international team; 
  • Be fluent in English. Other languages are an advantage. 


In addition to the basic requirements, we expect that a successful candidate:

  • is personable and genuinely enjoys dealing with people;
  • has excellent communication skills;
  • is motivated by finding a solution to a problem;
  • is fundamentally fair and looks for solutions that will develop and maintain our relationships with suppliers; 
  • is able to work under pressure.

  • How would you find someone to visit a remote site in Cameroon?
